SESSION 1 - EXPERIENCING/SITUATED PRACTICE
Duration - 30 mins (Variable)
When using educational apps such as Dr Seuss' The Cat in the Hat Comes Back, The Cat in the Hat, and The Three Little Pigs to teach children societal values, parents can guide children to identify the values in the story using the following prompters:
Can you tell me what you like about the story?
What do you think is a lesson that can be learnt from the story?
SESSION 2 - CONCEPTUALISING/OVERT INSTRUCTION
Duration - 30 mins (Variable)
During the second reading, as the child internalises the values transmitted via the narrative in the educational app, parents can guide the child to relate the values to daily lives using the following prompters:
Can you give me an example of a good behaviour at home?
Can you give me an example of a bad behaviour at home?
SESSION 3 - ANALYSING/CRITICAL FRAMING
Duration - 30 mins (Variable)
During the third reading, parents can perform a deep analysis of the narrative in the educational app with children to develop children's critical thinking.
Parents can consider using the following questions to prompt children to explore cause and effect relationships:
Why do you think the characters did what they did?
Can you suggest a different ending to the story?
SESSION 4 - APPLYING/TRANSFORMED PRACTICE
Duration - 30 mins (Variable)
To enable children to apply the values they have internalised, parents can consider using the following prompters to guide children to reflect on how values can be practised:
How can you help out at home to practise responsibility?
What can you do to help if someone at home falls sick?
