OBJECTIVE
Learning compassion
The purpose of these activities is to provide guidelines for the parents to scaffold children's learning of compassion with educational apps. The learning activities are divided into 4 sessions according to Cope and Kalantzis' (2015) Learning by Design framework.

SESSION 1 - EXPERIENCING/SITUATED PRACTICE
Duration - 30 mins (Variable)
During the first session, when using educational apps such as Cinderella to teach children compassion, parents can discuss the story with the child using the following prompters:
What are the characters doing?
What are the characters saying to each other?
SESSION 2 - CONCEPTUALISING/OVERT INSTRUCTION
Duration - 30 mins (Variable)
During the second reading, parents can relate values in the app to daily lives using the following prompters:
Why do we need to be kind to others?
How can we behave in society to make it a better place?"
SESSION 3 - ANALYSING/CRITICAL FRAMING
Duration - 30 mins (Variable)
During the third reading, parents can perform a deep analysis of the narrative in the app with the child using the following prompters:
Why did this character behave in this way towards another character?
How did the other character behave in return?
SESSION 4 - APPLYING/TRANSFORMED PRACTICE
Duration - 30 mins (Variable)
During the fourth reading, parents can reflect with the child on how compassion can be practised in society using the following prompters:
Can you tell me an example of when you have helped someone?
Can you tell me if you know of anyone who acted kindly towards you?
